Meet Pamela

“I used to think we should save our ‘nice’ things for special times… I’ve learned that NOW is a special time!”

Her Story

Pamela never worked in the fashion industry, but she often thinks she should have, as fashion is one of her greatest loves. Even her friends and family are so inspired by her style.

“My neighbor once yelled across the street, ‘How is it you always look great every time you walk out the door?!’”  Pamela used to think we should save our ‘nice’ things for special times…. “I’ve learned that NOW is a special time! If you’ve got it, wear it!”

Pamela is currently on a journey to seek out new passions to rejuvenate her spirit. She spent many years focusing on being a single mom to two incredible boys; her youngest is 22, and her oldest was 19 when he was killed while riding his motorcycle.

This tragedy has not been easy, but her attitude towards life is remarkable.

Pamela believes that, “life is about giving to others.” She is very passionate about children in the foster system and education for homeless children. In addition, she spends a lot of her time taking care of her parents, supporting her friends and community, and keeping her son’s memory and spirit alive for the many, many people that truly adored him.

“It’s very important for me to be a light for his friends,” she shared.

Pamela has been working every day to re-discover her spirit. She tries to find time doing the things that bring her joy, including swimming and diving, reading, doing yard work, training dogs, practicing yoga, seeing her youngest son (whom she is so incredibly proud of), spending time with friends — and sharing her love for fashion with others.

Pamela is a self-defined clotheshorse and loves to go shopping with her friends and encourage them to try new things.

According to Pamela, “I think it’s awesome to go shopping with someone and literally spend a day playing dress up, stepping outside of that comfort zone, and trying something that looks crazy to see what fits. Especially when you get older and your body shifts, it’s important to consider different styles!”

“My friends take me shopping with them to help them choose clothing that suits their body and style,” she said. “I’ve learned that just because we gravitate to a certain style or item of clothing, it doesn’t mean it will compliment us… so stepping out of our comfort zone is necessary – but doesn’t that just about sum up life?”

Pamela’s fashion advice? Mix it up.

One day, she noticed she had amazing clothes in her closet that she never wore, because they were “good” clothes and only worthy of special occasions. “I don’t date, and I’ve been single for 13 years,” she said — explaining that these events were few and far between.

“I started trying new outfits, and now I wear my good things on a daily basis, regardless of the occasion.”

Pamela has spent the past six years re-creating a life that is very different than she anticipated. Her attitude and ability to live in the present, from being a light for so many people to finding beauty and glamour in the everyday is truly inspiring. We are so grateful to have her as a Heartfelt Role Model.
