Meet Jean

“It’s all about integrity.”

Her Story

Jean was born in Manhattan and raised on Long Island. She has been married to her High School Sweetheart (Gregg) for more than 30 years, has three amazing kids (Amanda, Alaina and Gregory), and has lived in South Florida (Port St Lucie) since 1990. Also, Jean is a long-time fan, and shopper, of QVC.

Fun fact: When her kids were young, Jean worked for three years for QVC when they opened a St. Lucie call center! She started in Product Information, but says she “talked too much,” so she was “career-changed” to Order Entry Operator. Jean says there were so many lonely people who would call in at 1 AM, just for human connection, and she just couldn’t bear to hang up on them. Jean has made lifelong mom-friends from her time at QVC, as they all worked nights together in the call center!

As her kids grew up, Jean loved stay-at-home “mom-dom” and would substitute teach in their schools so she could be near and available to them.

And, when her youngest was in second grade, she answered a want-ad for, “moms looking to get out of the house…” It was for a cleaning service, and Jean loved to clean — everything except her own house, that is! She says it gave her such a sense of accomplishment to restore a house to order that looked like it had been hit hard by a hurricane, lol! It was here that she met her business-partner-to-be — and when the owner of the cleaning service decided to ease out of the business, Jean and her partner made the leap. And, just like that, with a financial investment of only a $15 business license, Jean became a small business owner, and House Beautiful Home Services was born. They took over 24 existing customers and through word of mouth alone — and no other marketing of any kind — she and her partner have grown the business to 49 loyal customers, and now have two additional employees.

Her clients own large Palm Beach homes — one is over 8,500 square feet. Most of the residents are Snowbirds, and House Beautiful Home Services maintains their houses for them while they have migrated! For example, HBHS handles pest control, hurricane shutters, routine maintenance, cleaning etc. Jean even helps them throw big parties a couple of times a year. She works for some clients 3 days a week — even ironing socks and pillow cases! Jean jokes that she is “living the dream!” But, in fact, she is… she says ALL of her customers are lovely. “It’s our business, and we won’t clean for anyone we don’t like!”

She tells her employees it’s all about integrity — “If you find a nickel on the floor, you pick it up and leave it on the counter. “Our name is our business, and your name is everything.”

Jean says,”You can tell that this is also the kind of person Laurie is, and it’s the same way she runs her own business!” Jean LOVES to shop and orders A LOT under the blanket on her iPad, with her dog by her side, as she hides from her husband! She adores Laurie’s jeans and “owns gobs of them!” When she gets a pair she likes, she immediately calls her three sisters to give them the item number too. She says that when she puts Laurie’s jeans on, she automatically feels lean, and nothing hurts! Unfortunately, she remembers the days when you had to “wipe the sweat from your mustache to zip up your denim!”

Jean doesn’t go unnoticed in Facebook. Her generous and fun-loving attitude really shines in the Heartfelt community! She captioned one picture that she posted, “Jeans by Laurie, body by menopause!” We just loved this! She has also gifted other Heartfelters with Laurie’s styles from her closet (that no longer fit her) when she learned they were struggling and couldn’t afford styles of their own.

If this isn’t truly Heartfelt, we don’t know what is….Thank you, Jean, for being such an inspiring Role Model.

What She Loves

Here are a few of my favorite things…
A good book, a beach breeze, a dog on my lap…
I love to travel, spoil my kids and lend a hand to anyone who needs it.

What color best describes you?

Blue, and not in a sad way — I love to look at the sky and think of my mom and dad who are in heaven.

If you had to pick one word your friends or family would use to describe you, what would it be?

What is your favorite quote or life motto?

“Be kind, you never know what a person is going through.”

Do you remember your very first pair of denim?

Jordache jeans from 1975, or my Gloria Vanderbilt black disco — yes, disco jeans! I would take them to the dry cleaner to get the crease down the front of them….ahhh, the memories!

If you had to pick one word to describe how you feel when at your best, what would it be?

Her Style

I love fashion, jewelry and accessories, and Laurie’s clothing line has made such a difference in the way I dress and feel about myself. I believe you should always try to put a little effort in yourself — I may not always have a blowout, but I always make sure my hair looks decent, and I never leave the house without mascara and lipstick!

“Our name is our business, and your name is everything.”
